Andrea Gutierrez is a flutist and composer from the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been playing the flute for 14 years and recently has been involved in several events throughout Silicon Valley such as being a cohort member for Quinteto Latino’s Seminaro conference, and performing as a soloist in the 2023 Silicon Valley Music Festival as part of a fellowship with Chamber Music Silicon Valley. In her composition career, she particularly enjoys experimenting with electronics and electroacoustic music and has also been commissioned to compose several works for student films, soloists, and chamber groups.
Andrea’s recent teaching experiences include being an assistant instructor for San Jose State University’s Summer Flute Institute as well as an assistant instructor for Festival Opera en la Calle’s summer orchestra program directed by Opera de Tijuana in Tijuana, Mexico. She is very passionate about inspiring musicians of any age to explore their creative potential either through performance or composition, or both! She is also fluent and able to teach music in both English and Spanish.
Andrea received her A.A. in Flute Performance from Napa Valley College, under the mentorship of Jennifer Hunt. She is currently pursuing a B.M. in Composition at San Jose State University where she has studied with Dr. Christopher Luna-Mega and Dr. Brian Ciach and continues to study flute with Dr. Ray Furuta.
